14 Turnpike Row
Stratford
Henry & Mary Burling and their children lived at 14 Turnpike Row in Stratford, Essex at the time of the 1841 census, until soon before they departed
for New Zealand. Stratford became a part of Greater London in 1965.
Turnpike Row was a row of adjoined houses, located on the south side of High Street. The building has long since been demolished, and a high-rise, built in the 1960s, stood where 14 Turnpike Row was located. In 2023 the highrise was demolished, and development of a new highrise started on the site.
A couple of nearby buildings from
Henry & Mary’s time still stand, including the hotel that is currently
called The Westbridge.
